The intended arrangement was to congregate the sparse few old mates for a time of catching up through sports. However it was foiled due to the brittle drizzle which looks harmless on its facade yet reasonably austere to touch, and in addition, compulsory Choir Auditions in which we mulled over whether or not we should give it a miss for the longest period ever.
Nonetheless, our spirits were lifted when the few of us began playing no-brainer games at the canteen tables. We started with the prosaic even-three-year-old-knows-how-to-play scissors, paper, stone, without carrying much hope of anyone enjoying it, since it was in a bid to kill boredom. Who knows our faithlessness would prove us wrong! Animal concentration was the ultimate game which provoked much boisterous laughter and banging of tables. Even though we started with a meagre number of 5 people, we ended with 9 gamers on a high note!
When it was time for dismissal, everyone scuffled back to either their homes, or to their rendezvous. In a bid to kill time and boredom (before caregroup), I headed to Carrefour to grab a bottle of mineral bottle before strolling to Istana Park to do my Quiet Time.
I was a tad insecure about my surroundings at first, but as I began to read into each lines, I became less self-conscious and more apathetic about what was happening. Everything else faded, insecurities, weariness, etc the moment I allowed the word of God to run through my heart.
It was an enriching time of revelation and learning. We always complain that we do not receive anything when we read His word, but if you had actually deliberately set aside time to focus on His word, you would have gotten a completely different result. That was exactly what I experienced today. Unhurried time with God; with nothing tugging or troubling on what I have to do after this and all, basically just spending time as if it has a lot to offer and there is nothing to lose.
We often look to the Bible as a set of rules, but I would beg to differ. Rules restrict you and leaves you with no choice but to follow. On the other hand, the Bible teaches, leaving the decision in our hands. It is a mere book of basic instructions before living earth. If you were to look beyond the exterior of the Bible of it simply being a book, and think of it as something which is alive, you would marvel at its contents.
I am proud to say that I have noted a slight improvement in my QT life!
