Your friendly ghost

Halloween

After 364 days of passive anticipation, we can finally roam the big and lustful houses along Holland, do some cosplay, and play pseudo again without having to save our faces from embarrassment. Though I am clueless about what to dress up as, eleventh-hour always works for me and clairvoyance tells me we are going to have a good time again!

On a side note, I hitched a free ride from my Dad today to Holland Village. It reminded me of the good old carefree (probably a few years after I’ve learnt how to walk) days when I constantly bugged him to take me out for spins. He would willingly oblige and take me out for spins round the estate. I enjoy sitting next to the driver seat while questioning the parts of the cars, hoping to gain knowledge for future use. Yes, I am an ambitious kid!

Many years ago when I look out of the windscreen, I see nothing but the blue sky. Today, I saw more than just blue skies, I saw headlights. I am still waiting for the day where I can see the front of my Dad’s car.

The next time I travel in my Dad’s car, I hope to question about the meaning of life.

Bedtime stories

House

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building job and live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.”

What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his won house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. We build our lives in a very distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points, we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realised that, we would have done it differently. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, “Life is a do-it-yourself project”. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitutes and the choices you make today.

After note: Though I beg to differ that life is a DIY project, the story still makes sense. :)

Music makes me lose control

October 25, 2007

Music

Two nights ago, I was feeling a tad discouraged and somehow I got this prompting to plug in to Sing of Your Great Love.

The night before, my mother and I sort of stepped on each others’ toes over unnecessary arguements. And I unintentionally blasted Break Free in my ears to drown her music.

Tonight, I am staring at the screen, fidgetting in the comfort of my seat, (note the irony), feeling a tad crummy and tight up in my chest because of the uneventful happenings that took place and all that is to come.

Whoosh!

Don’t worry, I won’t attempt to take my life in any case. I am viewing problems in a very positive light. In fact, I’m very happy because it signifies growth! Take me on.

Tears of nature

Despite the countless circumstances which drove against her, her hopes were never blighted. This time, who would have expected a single setback to cause her to lose her tranquility.

Miss Quek should not have brought in the tissue la!

Honestly, I don’t deem myself fit to trail the last few traces of hope. I thought I could handle it well, perhaps so, I was proven wrong today. Sorry to all for cancelling the meeting. I thought it through before I decided to postpone it. It was not an act of impulse or based on any sort of negative feelings.

Don’t worry, I will be fine (after a short nap, talk with God and a run tomorrow).
